How in-house engineering changes retaining wall delivery

When a civil contractor outsources retaining walls, the engineering review and construction delivery are handled by different parties. The structural engineer issues a design and certification requirements. The wall subcontractor interprets those requirements on site. The head contractor coordinates between them. That works until something changes on site, and changes on site are common with retaining walls.

Geotechnical conditions differ from the borehole data. Existing services are found in the excavation zone. The design levels do not align with the adjacent earthworks. Drainage installation behind the wall including ag pipe, geotextile filter fabric and free-draining gravel. Staged backfill with compaction testing at specified lift heights. Completion and handover

As-built survey confirming wall alignment and levels against the design. Compaction test results and material certifications compiled for the certifying engineer. Photo documentation of concealed elements (foundations, reinforcement, drainage) captured at each hold point. Handover documentation package issued to the builder or developer for inclusion in the project record.
